It was an easy 50 minute drive from Yeppoon to Byfield National Park after we got off the boat from Great Keppel Island. It was so easy with the caravan, the owner from Cap Coast Storage was waiting for us when we got off the ferry and took us to pick up the van.
We stayed at Ferns Hideaway Resort near Byfield National Park. On the way there Chris asked what are the plans for here? As he asked me, I was actually googling what to do and thinking why did we come here again? Byfield is a 4 wheel drive National Park and we don’t really 4WD…
Ferns Hideaway is lovely though. The property backs onto a beautiful river and they have canoes for guests.

Chris and I went canoeing. The scenery was beautiful.

It’s a very quiet peaceful river no rapids. Which is lucky because one of us doesn’t know how to paddle.
Even though it was flat, there were quite a lot of logs to dodge. Chris was at the front. I said choose your side but he chose to randomly paddle both sides. I tried to explain sweep stroke and draw but he said don’t go getting all technical. Then when we crashed into logs – I was accused of not paddling properly… I’ll leave it to you dear reader to work out who was paddling properly and who was not.
We were so bad we were overtaken by this family. One dad in the back and 2 looked like 5 year olds paddling up the front.

Anyway today was really the only day so far where I wished Chris brought his fishing rods so that he could go fishing, so that’s not bad after 3 weeks living on top of each other.
We are staying in our first unpowered site. So far the lights are still on and the Aldi solar panel we bought at Aldi Dubbo worked to charge my phone. I may have to eat my words there. Chris is very happy.
