Roadtrip: Bundaberg to Bargara

We decided to bail on Bundaberg. We had been planning to do day trips from Bundaberg to the beaches but decided we would base ourself at one of the nearby beachside towns in the area instead: Bargara. Bargara is only a 15 minute drive from Bundaberg.

I googled caravan parks in Bargara – there are two – both with good google ratings. I chose Absolute Oceanfront Tourist Park because it is on the oceanfront. Not my best research in hindsight. It wasn’t a great beach day so there was no need to rush. Chris went to the shops and I updated my blog. I decided I wanted to do a foodie experience in Bundaberg so we went to the Water Street Kitchen for lunch. I found it in a tourist brochure. It’s located out of the CBD in a suburban street in a renovated house.

It was a a bit fancier than the other places we have eaten at along the way so I said Chris you better put on a shirt. He put on a black shirt and as we were walking in we realised it was covered in our ragdoll cat’s white hair so we madly tried to get it off with no success. No matter, we’d tried.

Lovely menu with local ingredients and good combination of seafood and non seafood items. Chris was impressed with the fancy knives. The food was delicious, cocktails were great and nice table service. Definitely worth delaying our departure for.

We headed to Bargara after lunch. The Oceanfront Caravan Park, that I chose because it is on the ocean, is technically on the ocean BUT there is no beach. It’s all rock. Most ocean views are from the cabins. I also found out why I was asked very specific questions about the size of our van (does it have a tyre on the back?) – the sites are very tight to back into.

We walked the 3km into town. Some of the walk is along the beach, some along the road.

Bargara is a very cute little town with nice cafes and places to have a drink.

We found a map of a walking path along the coast.

I said we should do some of it. Chris said we should do the whole walk to Burnett Heads tomorrow – 22 km return. I just looked at him. He said we could drive to the start here, get a coffee, we could walk then get lunch out. So we agreed.
